The aging process is often manifested by looser skin with the appearance of wrinkles on the face.

There are 3 signs of aging in the face:

• Reduced skin elasticity (skin excess)

• Emergence of wrinkles id skin (due to e.g. sun damage)

• Loss of volume (fat disappearing in the face)

With a facelift, the drooping skin that gives an irregular contour to the jawline (hamster cheeks), the marionette lines under the corners of the mouth as well as the deep folds between the nose and corners of the mouth are corrected.

It also partially remedies drooping skin at the neck and under the chin. The angle between the neck and chin becomes sharper.

The method consists of partially detaching the skin from the underlying fine muscle tendon plate (SMAS) and firming the latter. In the process, skin slits are made in the hairline or behind the hairline from the sleeping region to exactly in front of the auricles (and this is where these scars stop with a MACS elevator).

If a complete correction of the neck is desired, an additional neck elevator should also be performed. Here the incision is extended to behind the auricles and behind the scalp hairline behind the ears. If necessary, a skin incision is also made under the chin in the non-visible area.
